Q: "What makes a synthetic lubricant superior to the base stocks produced from crude petroleum?"
A: First of all, the molecules in synthetic lubricants are much more consistent in size and shape, which reduces the effects of extreme temperatures. Typically, a conventional lubricant''s short-chain molecules can easily evaporate, and its unstable molecules will oxidize in the extreme heat. In addition, synthetic stocks are chemically produced so there are no contaminants. Conventional lubricants contain small amounts of sulfur, wax and asphaltic material that cannot be completely removed from crude petroleum. Another key difference is that synthetic stocks do not contain wax.
Q: "What''s the difference between a 100 percent synthetic lubricant and a semi-synthetic?"
A: All lubricants are made up of base lubricant and additives. Fully synthetic lubricants contain synthetic base oils, and synthetic blends usually use a combination of synthetic and conventional base oils. Semi-synthetic oils or blends may also be blends of hydro-cracked or hydro-processed base stock with conventional mineral base stock. Don''t assume that a "blend" contains a high percentage of synthetic base stocks. The synthetic base lubricant component can be as little as 10 percent of the total product in these semi-synthetic products.
Q: "Is SPEC 357 a fully synthetic lubricant?"
A: Yes, it''s 100 percent synthetic. The base stocks used in blending SPEC 357 are all "chemically constructed" instead of being simply segregated out of crude lubricants like conventional mineral oils.
Q: "Can SPEC 357 help my pistol last longer?"
A: Yes, with normal recommended maintenance practices. SPEC 357''s synthetic base stocks are free of any compounds that can readily oxidize or form varnish

This is very good quality gun cleaner, a little goes a long way, and I can feel the protection from finger prints as this solution seems to absorb into the Stainless Steel...

I''m happy with the oil. I shoot frequently (IDPA), and this oil lasts much longer than the Beretta oil I''ve been using. It''s lasting properties also seem to help during break-in, making the action nice and smooth. I''ve used it on my M-4, Mini-14, Springfield XD-45, and SIG-PRO 9mm with great results.
